Dear Scotty

When starting my 2012 Toyota Corolla Fielder (JDM) which has a little under 200,000Km I hear a screeching sound. I have become a bit of a do-it-yourselfer and I watch your YouTube channel quite often. I want to see if I can fix this myself but I have no idea what’s causing it. I wanted to upload a short video so you can hear the sound but it seems I can’t. Please assist. Thanks.

Hi again,

I figured out how to share pictures and videos so see link below…

Make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here.

Hi guys,
I made some adjustments to the belt tensioner and it pretty much solved the problem. Thank you so much for all your suggestions. Awesome job guys. Keep up the good work.

Good job! Thanks for posting back with the fix.

Probably a problem with one of the fan belts.

Hey,

Was thinking that too so I changed the belt but the problem persists. Thanks though.

It could be the bearing going out in your idler pulley too.  You'll sometimes get a noise like that from the bearings in the power steering pump or the alternator.  Also, with a new belt, you're supposed to run it for ten minutes and then re-check it for correct tension.

Thanks Doc, I’ll check on these.
