I know that the Shell premium gas is a good gas with the V-Power it uses. My question is how is their regular 87 octane gas? Is it just as good?
Thanks
Their 87 Octane fuel is just fine. It's a Top Tier branded fuel, so it has more detergents than some generic place like UDF, just not like V-Power. 90% of the time I only run regular Shell gasoline in my 1999 Ranger with 267k, it runs excellent, and my 2017 Mustang only drinks V-Power.
I only run Shell fuels, for my personal cars and the cars I sell. They are the best fuel out there IMO, with Chevron coming second.
the vehicle manufacturer recommends a minimum octane rating for your car. 87 octane probably is the minimum requirement. My car is supercharged so the manufacturer recommends 91 octane to prevent pinging in the motor, and possible engine damage.
it meets federal fuel standards, so it's good enough for me
See below: On which gas to use, I just stick with any Top Tier gas and the minimum grade required for my car (per owner’s manual), and of those I get the one that is cheaper (so mainly Arco near me). So if you go to Shell and your car needs minimum 87, then stick to 87.

I thought Super Shell gasoline had Platformate which improves gas mileage. Maybe they don't have that any more.

Platformate? Isn't that the stuff they tried putting into toothpaste, but it tasted too bad?
It would not surprise me! :silly:
