Hi everyone. Currently I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 that has been reliable over the 10 years I've owned it. I'm in the market for a new 3 row SUV that can support my growing family and also have good towing capability with 4 wheel drive. Also, I was looking to buy something that is 2018 or newer. Early options I've looked at include the Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, and a Toyota Sequoia. I won't need the extended length version on the Chevy/GMC or Ford models.
What would you all recommend? Also, what have been some things you've experienced with any of these vehicles?
Clarification: How much will you be towing? And will you be towing often?
@DayWalker: I have a Nitro bass boat with a total package weight of 3000 lbs and also have a travel trailer that is approximately 5350 lbs. I recently acquired the travel trailer so I have not towed anything like that with the Jeep.
Get the Sequoia with the V8 engine. Forget the rest.
The new Sequoia is nothing like the old one. The old one is best.
The new Highlander also can tow quite a bit, but not that much.

You will be disappointed with the newer vehicles. If you plan to keep long term (sounds like you might since you had your Jeep for over 10 years) out of warranty, then of those you narrowed down to - I would select the Toyota Sequoia but get the previous Gen Sequoia which ended for model year 2022; don’t get the all-new generation Sequoia with the twin turbo V6 that just came out - let the bugs get worked out first. Anyways, with the older Sequoia just be prepared for horrendous gas mileage (all these big SUVs will be mediocre in gas mileage).
I own a 2006 Expedition XLT 4WD that I bought used in 2014 with 151K miles. I now have 233K miles and it is the original transmission and engine. I have towed heavy loads up to around 8,000 lbs and I live in Colorado so some of that heavy towing has been through mountain passes. It's not a racecar in the mountain passes (sometimes when towing heavy loads I would only go 30mph or so). Anyways, it's a great truck and powerful.
You may want to consider a 2014 with the V8. This is the last year they made the V8 for the Expedition. I would not go with the newer V6 turbo engines on ANY truck.
Good luck 🙂 /p>
Thanks for the input everyone. I ultimately decided to go for a low mileage 2020 Toyota Sequoia Platnium (Magnetic Gray Metallic exterior, Sand Beige interior). In the few weeks I've had that truck, it's a beast and it's had no problems towing the boat. I haven't had a chance to hook up the travel trailer yet. The other thing is that me and the family like how comfortable it is, especially on the recent road trip we took with it. Everything feels super durable in it. Knowing a longtime friend who works at a dealer helped with landing a good deal. So far, I absolutely love it and it checks all the boxes.
