Hi Scotty,
Should I buy a 2008 Mercedes-Benz S550 with 68000KM from a friend for CAD $10,000? He's the second owner and has maintained it well for the last six years. He too bought it from a friend who had maintained it well.
It would replace my 2000 Toyota Avalon with 400K KM.
The other choice is a 2016 Honda Civic LX with 60000KM that my son's friend wants to sell for $15000.
I'm afraid the Benz would become a money pit. However the ride quality and luxury is amazing.
Thanks for you opinion.

You are correct. The Mercedes S class is not for daily driving unless you got a deep pocket and a second vehicle to rely on.
On the other hand, if you want to replace the Avalon, find at least a Camry to get similar ride quality.
Sir, am an expert in this generation of s class and I would say that,, it is really realiable and there is no comparison with the civic poor riding quality..
I bought my s550 2010 s class back in jan 2019 with 109K miles, I drove the heck out of it (daily drive), it's now got 264K.. no major issue original tranny/engine.. I advise you not buy 06 and 07 cause it has driveshaft chain that will eat up (major labour) take this s class to an expert do compression test leak down test check for any major leaks check if the transmission oil has been replaced and check if the transmission shifting correctly
I replaced oil cooler (50$)
