2009 Honda CRV automatic with 133000 miles. Not sure when the transmission fluid was changed last since we got the car a year ago, but I was wondering if I should change it? I’ve heard it can damage the transmission to change the fluid on higher milage cars if it hasn’t been changed before.

I would do a drain and fill on it myself.
Either way, you are rolling the dice. We know what will eventually happen if you never change the fluid. 💣
Changing the fluid will not damage the transmission. If it’s damaged, it’s from not changing the fluid. What you have to worry about is it being so far gone that the dirt and debris built up in your tranny is doing the work for the fluid.
If the wear on your transmission is not that bad, then fresh fluid will help keep it cooler and lubricated. If the wear is excessive, the viscosity of the fresh fluid won’t be enough without all that dirt and debris, and you may notice symptoms such as transmission noise and slipping while shifting
When making your decision, take into account The way the vehicle has been driven in addition to the number of miles. If you have driven a lot of highway miles, and you are a fairly conservative driver, that’s much easier on your transmission than city stop and start driving and aggressive driving
