I need help
I took my 2017 Rogue into the mechanic to get the CVT fluid changed as it just hit 30k miles. Both the owners manual and countless other owners recommend getting the fluid changed around that mileage. My mechanic said he would not change it and that I should leave it alone while it's under warranty and then change around 75k miles. What should I do? I am going to get a second opinion at another mechanic and I think I'll also contact my Nissan dealer as well to see what they think.
If Nissan recommends changing the fluid at 30K miles then it has to be done to maintain your warranty. Additionally those are just about the weakest transmissions on the market and if not maintained they will fail even faster so it should be changed regardless. Find a mechanic willing to change the fluid if you cannot do it yourself.
Definitely time for a second opinion. I wouldn't run a CVT 75k miles between fluid changes.
The users manual is the car bible; stick to it. Plus, Nissan Rouge often live up to their name. They might go rogue on you if you don’t maintain them properly.
Also, ask the mechanic to drain the fluid and refill, not flush it out of the transmission.
Even if the manual specified longer intervals, I would get the CVT fluid changed every 30,000 miles still (drain and fill). Those are weak transmissions to begin with, so changing the fluid out is crucial. If your mechanic won’t do it, find one that will.
Dump your mechanic for one that will do what YOU are paying for. This reminds me of my Dad who used to say "If I wanted your opinion, I'd give it to you."
