Should I get a new engine or just get rid of my Mustang?

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2002 3.8 v6 Mustang base. The car has about 200,000 miles on it and has an automatic transmission. Recently the engine has had several problems and I thought about replacing/swapping the engine myself. The rebuilt engine online is $2,000 and other parts could end up costing me $3,000. I have new tires on the car ($700), new springs, struts and shocks, and a new radiator. Do you think I should invest the money to fix the car or just get rid of it?

Rebuilt engines are a no no, they are done rebuilt properly many times, a used OEM motor is better.

I would part out the car and move on to another vehicle. You don't know how much longer the transmission will go.

Thanks for your help. I think that probably is the best solution. It's my first car so parting ways with it will be tough, but it's just the best decision financially. The repairs are more than what it's worth.
