Should I have the automatic transmission replaced on 2007 Lexus LS460L with 108K miles?

Hi Scotty and all! New here, discovered Scotty's YouTube channel about 4 weeks ago. Awesome stuff!

Transmission started bucking several weeks ago, slow to engage in reverse also, and will not shift above 4th gear. Had dealer check it, said showed 3 solenoids possibly bad. Was told no component rebuilds possible, only Lexus direct rebuilds available. $9500 P&L. Separate mechanic shop said could only find one available for about same price as dealer, indicating this model had consistently high transmission issues. Both dealer and mechanic stated could change fluid to maybe fix,but unlikely, and may make completely undriveable.

Was told by selling dealer when bought used at 61k miles that trans fluid had changed. Surprised with legendary Lexus quality am having issues with so few miles. also told all 8 control arms needs replacing due to bushings (only notice some suspension noise in right front over speed bumps).

Car had one rear end accident before I bought, straight frame was certified. Had minor front impact after purchase in 2015 resulting in bumper and right headlight replacement.

With the conditions above and years and mileage, is it worth me replacing transmission to then deal with  control arm costs later? Or cut my losses and sell and replace with used Toyota of some type?

Any feedback advice is greatly appreciated as I am torn. Thanks much in advance!

Eric

Well it was in a rear end accident that could destroy the transmission see that all the time. You can't blame Alexis on that one personally I wouldn't spend that kind of money but if you're nuts about the car try to find a good used transmission to have installed

Scotty, thank you so much for your advice. I was not aware of the rear end impact affecting a transmission that way. That's great to know. I do appreciate the car but not necessarily nuts about it! Other types of vehicles, like a SUV, have caught my attention for other practical purposes, but I had not even considered possibility of a used transmission, that's a great suggestion. i will look into that and see if that makes sense for me now.

Thank you again for your prompt reply and feedback. It is very helpful.

Sincerely,

Eric
