Should I use sealant on transmission pan gasket? (2007 Toyota Matrix)

Hi, I am planning on replacing ATF and filter on my 2007 Toyota Matrix (60k miles) by myself to avoid an expensive mechanic markup. Anyways, I watched a video on how to replace the filter and fluid on a matrix and the guy used sealer on the gasket. However, looking this up on the internet there are a bunch of people who say that you should never use sealer because if any gets into the AT it can destroy it. Also, they said it will make it impossible to remove in the future, and I intend on replacing it again at 120k. So, should I use the sealant or not?

I have found this Youtuber to be very informative and professional- he uses a little spray adhesive, mostly to keep the gasket exactly in place - if there isn't any damage, cleanliness and placement is what you should focus on.

BUT - if you're doing new ATF every 60K, you could probably be fine just draining it via the drain plug (that's worked for me with Toyota transmissions).

awesome mechanic and YT channel

to keep the gasket in place, I just lay it on the pan where it goes, and poke the bolts through the holes. The gasket grips the bolts and everything stays together nicely.

I always use sealer on these gaskets, just not a lot so it squeezes out all over the place.

they said it will make it impossible to remove in the future,

this is why I don't use any.

Both my current vehicle and the previous one didn't have sealant, and they didn't leak.

You don't need it.
