Should I use Synthetic on 10 year old truck if I can’t find conventional in stores ?

Scotty, I’ve got a 2010 GMC Yukon XL, 5.3L, with 175,000 miles in Minnesota.

the book calls for conventional 5w30. But sometimes all the stores around me have is synthetic.

in worries about switching to synthetic oil with the age and miles of the vehicle.

Should I pay the shipping cost  to get conventional oil delivered, or take the risk and switch to synthetic ?

I have an 03 with over 500k on the odo and my dad and I have always ran full synthetic and there's only been one rear main seal leak but that just happened earlier this year

I get that. If I buy a new car, or a low mileage car I’ll start by using full synth. But I bought this when it had 150k, now 175k, and don’t have records previous owner used full synthetic, so I’m trying to stick with conventional but sometimes it’s not sold in stores.

I personally would buy the oil from Amazon or someplace with free shipping putting full synthetic oil in a car that didn't have it can cause leakage and or oil burning

For years I've been running synthetic in several old vehicles, some over 50 years old, with no issues.

But did you start and stay with synthetic, or did you SWITCH to synthetic part way through? That’s what I’m trying to decide.

My really old vehicles hail from a time when synthetic oil did not exist. Haven't had any problems running synthetic in them. Of course there's no way to know if a 10-year-old truck is going to respond the same way as a 55-year-old car.

Switching to Synthetic in a car that has been running regular oil its whole life is not the best idea. You can get leaks, etc. especially with 6-figure mileage like you have.

It is worth it to order the regular stuff online. Keep an eye out for sales and stockpile a little bit if you can afford it and have storage space. Oil has a LONG shelf life.
