Found a Honda civic 2008 2 door coupe on Craigslist. Owner is 3rd owner. Said car needs a wheel alignment that is only thing. We drove the car on highway speeds and the steering wheel shook real bad. Owner had replaced 2 front tires just recently as he got a flat after we looked at and says he would sell to us for $2800. No oil leaking and exhaust had clear or no visible smoke coming from car upon starting. Engine was quiet mostly. But u can hear from the inside when accelerate and code reader says no codes. Has front bumper damage but clean title. About 120K miles on it. Is due for an oil change he says but we did not check engine fluid yet. Air conditioner does not get cold. No windshield wiper fluid. He is leaving for NY from Alaska next week. Do you think we should buy it or walk away?
If you’re seriously considering it, have it inspected thoroughly by your trusted mechanic, before purchase. You/your mechanic needs to make sure that the steering shake is just from unbalanced tyres & not wreck damage. Also, get a quote to repair the AC & deduct that from the asking price.
If your mechanic finds something serious wrong with the engine/transmission, just walk.
Do not buy this vehicle without getting a thorough pre-purchase inspection performed.
Good luck!
I wouldn't bother with a car with problems. Probably a waste of money. Lots of good Corollas and Civics out there just for a grand more that were better maintained. Make sure to have a mechanical inspection done.
