I have recently restored an 89 325i and the last thing that is giving me trouble is the ac compressor it is a V style belt and im getting lost reading online about it the part is hard to find. I was wondering if you had any advice as to how to go about this job. Im doing all of the work myself and letting my grandfather recharge it.
A 1989 car, I would look for a R134 conversion kit if you can find one. There are generic kits out there you should be able to install and make work. Getting parts for it to run the original R12 system is going to be impossible. There are companies that make parts for classic cars in 60s and 70s to restore their systems, I have never seen any for BMW’s. Even if you could find parts, R12 is expensive to obtain. Stay away from the 10-20 buck cans on Ebay. Most are really 134 in relabeled cans from China.
