Hey I have a 2006 is250 120k miles and got the ac regassed yesterday as they was filling it up the compressor seized and now the engine wont turn over with the belt on is there anyway to get the compressor clutch to spin freely instead of replacing it I have temporarily placed a shorter belt on and bypassed the ac but it's rubbing a little so not a long term solution any advice. Thanks
If there is an electrically-operated compressor clutch you should be able to disconnect the wire,or remove the AC relay or fuse, to prevent the compressor from engaging. Then the clutch just becomes a "dead" idler pulley.
If you plan on repairing your AC, at a minimum you need to replace not only the failed compressor, but also the condenser, expansion valve (or orifice tube), and of course the drier. The rest of the system would need to be flushed out to remove debris. It would also be a good time to consider replacing the 19-year-old AC hoses.
@chucktobias hey thanks for the advice I did unplug the clutch on the compressor this morning but no luck although didnt get much time to fiddle with it before work ill try again later with taking out the fuse
I did unplug the clutch on the compressor this morning but no luck
It's possible that the clutch bearing is seized up. Does the pulley rotate freely by hand when the fan belt is off of it?
All this is assuming that the compressor does have an electromagnetic clutch, some use an internal control valve instead. There are rockauto.com listings for that vehicle which indicate either type may be used in that model. See if there is a wire going directly under the pulley where an electromagnetic clutch coil would be.

@chucktobias hey my compressor does have the grey electrical connector by the pulley i did unplug it but still couldn't get the pulley to spin this issue first started a year ago when it seized and snapped the belt and and then wouldnt start with the belt on the car then sat for a year as I didn't need it at the time and when I fitted a new belt a year later it ran fine just with no cold air I took it to a garage to get it recharged and they said when the machine asked them to start the car the compressor seized and they couldn't get it to start
Can't tell from here what's going on but if the pulley won't spin when the car is off either you have no clutch on that model compressor or the pulley bearing has seized.
@chucktobias ah okay I'll probably just try and remove the pulley then to stop the shorter belt rubbing on it as a temp fix for now thanks for your help tho
If that pulley won't move even when the car is off about the only thing you can do to go back to a normal belt would be to replace the compressor. If not interested in the AC you could pick up the cheapest junkyard compressor you can find where the pulley spins OK and just use it as an idler pulley. (Some vehicles actually have an AC delete idler pulley available for them but I doubt that's the case for is250.)
