The new 2.5l skyactiv engines have cylinder deactivation now but the 2.5l turbo versions do not. I was wondering which one would be more reliable

Since they are so new, it’s hard to tell.

With that said, this is my guess based on how other engines have faired with turbos and cylinder deactivation.  In order of preferences:

1) 2.5L w/ cylinder deactivation BUT turned off.
2) 2.5L w/ turbo

3) 2.5L w/ cylinder deactivation.

It’s not clear how one can turn off the cylinder deactivation in those engines. Maybe someone else can chime in that knows.  Even then the hardware is still intact and while turning it off via software mitigates potential wear&tear and/or failure, it won’t eliminate the possibility.

That sucks if there is no easy way to turn it off.

That is a 4 cylinder, how many cylinders are they deactivating?

2 cylinders; they are the only automaker to offer it on a 4-cylinder engine. Although, Ford has a 3-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation that deactivates 1 of the 3 cylinders.
