I'm trading in my 2004 Volkswagen Polo for a 2022 model year Volkswagen Up! or Kia Picanto.

The Volkswagen has a 1.0 litre engine (65 horsepower) and the Kia is a 1.2 litre (84 horsepower); both naturally aspirated.

At 75 mph; the rpm in both cars sits at around 4,000 rpm; redline's 7-8000 rpm. I am a college student so I need to drive my car at motorway speeds two times a week 32 miles each way to get there.

Is there any way I can damage a small displacement engine by running it like that; possibly for years? I'd like to know if I'm risking damage over the long run or whether I shouldn't worry at all.

I've no intention buying a turbo or upgrading to a larger car.

Thanks so much.
