Small SUV for my wife

We own a 2018 Kia Sedona.  We have been more than satisfied with it, although we have only put about 25K miles on it since new.  My wife had a bad bout with COVID and no longer feels "comfortable" driving such a large vehicle.  We intend to keep the KIA for the infrequent but long trips we take but would like to find her something to drive around town.  Here are the parameters:  Something that sits higher than a sedan, 3K max miles per year, must have all the safety doo-dads, projected 10 year or less use span, purchase price around 20K.

What models and years should we consider and which should we absolutely avoid.

Thank you

My personal first choice would be the latest generation HR-V (known as the ZR-V in other countries besides the US).

My second choice would the CX-30.

I just like the overall design of Honda and Mazda, albeit sacrificing a tiny bit on potential longevity.

But my recommendation would be the Toyota Corolla Cross or the Toyota CH-R. CH-R has been around for sometime, and seems resilient thus far. Although the Corolla Cross is newer, it is built off a reliable Corolla platform, and odds are it will be a resilient vehicle as well.

Honorable mention to the Subaru Crosstrek. Cool car. And relatively reliable.  Just not my personal favorite.

C-HR or Crosstrek maybe?  From personal experience with the Crosstrek, they are very easy to maneuver, have great visibility, reasonable comfort, and should be pretty close to your price range. They’ve been discussed extensively here; take a look at the search bar.

And of course there’s always the RAV4 and CRV.  Extremely reliable but somewhat bigger and more $.  Might not be worth the price for so few miles.
