Scotty,
I’m a driver for Chick-fil-A and they currently have a fleet of 4 smart cars and a van. One of them Car 2 is a 2012 or so with 55k on it. For some reason the car bucks, jerks, and slips gears. Today it completely fell out of gear leaving the restaurant and stalled out. Took me multiple attempts to get back running. What is up with these cars?

You need to get it scanned for codes.
