hello everyone,
I have a 2015 ram 1500 with the 3.6L. It has 102,000 miles on it. It is an automatic transmission. When I turn on the heater, I see smokke coming out of the vents and has a rubber buring smell to it. I checked the hood with the car on and I dont hear any belt or pully making noise nor see any smoke. It seems to be coming inside the cabin. It does not have a cabin filter. I want to say these were the years when MOPAR had the option to add a cabin filter. It only happens when the heater is one.
either your blower motor is fried, or it's actually steam and your heater core ruptured. Check your coolant level.
@imperator I found the problem. The smell was coming from the blower motor. I took it apart where the resistor is mounted to the blower motor. Ram put Butyl RetroRubber that is used to seal headlights when doing a retrofit or they type that is used to seal a windshield. Where the motor is for the blower it had just enough caked on so when it got hot. It will melt it and cause it throw smoke from the A/C vents and have that burn rubber smell. I cleaned that Butyl RetroRubber seal off the motor and the problem went away. I put a new OEM blower motor from Dodge since all that sealant was gone and coated onto the resistor. I wonder if there is a way to attach photos on here.
