1) 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis, LS, 4-door, 5.0 liter V-8 FI, automatic, milage, 164,000 highway miles mainly and NO OBDII to plug into.
2) Battery, 750 CCA, Interstate, new and terminals clean, new alternator, solenoid, and new starter. Parked outside year round in Gulf Coast Environment.
Question: If I let it sit for exactly 4 days without starting, all of the above works fine in turning the engine over big time but it want catch to start. If I start it within 1-3:days without depressing the accelerator down at all, it starts up and runs so smoothly you could sit a glass of water filled to the top and it wouldn't spill a drop but, the 4th day, I have to press the accelerator 1/2 way down then after 5-6 tries press the accelerator down to the floor resulting in it trying to catch and finally starting for 5 seconds roughly then finally runs in idol as smooth as a Baby's butt. What the Heck is causing this situation??? Mechanics have no idea {pear}:exhausted: since they don't have a OBDII to plug into. So if you would be so kind, tell me in plain English what to do so I can tell these so called mechanics what to check to fix my problem. {pear}:laughingoutloud: Scotty, if you know of any mechanic that's halfway as good as You, let me know. I'm around the Galveston, Texas area.

Fuel Injection.
That happened to me with the same engine. turned out to be a bad PCV valve that was leaking air.
Also, try turning the key to "on" but don;t start the engine for 5 seconds to give the fuel pump time to prime the system. Sometimes the fuel in the line will drain back into the tank if the car sits for awhile and when you goo to start it, the engine is sucking air for a bit.
Carburetor or fuel injection?
