[Solved] Still good to use: 10+ year old oil in bottle

I found some bottles of oil in the back of storage. Most unopened. Some partially used.

Does oil degrade significantly over time?  Can I still use these bottles of oil?

Realize petroleum sits under the Earth's surface for millions of years the only thing you have to do with oil is shake it up if it's never been used if anything is settled

Hi Kaizen,

I would advise not to use the oil which has been opened and half used if you are going to put it in a modern (last three years) vehicle, as this may have absorbed moisture from the atmosphere, however as long as the sealed containers hold the correct oil for your vehicle then as Scotty says shake it up and use it. but first pour it into a clean container and check for contaminants such as rust from the old oil cans.

As for the oil from the opened can, I would keep it mix it half and half with petrol and use it for cleaning engine parts in.

Scotty, Hope you don't mind me saying this.

Hope this helps.

Oil and petrol together is a cleaning agent?! I knew petrol was, but had no idea oil was. Oil always gave me problems on clean up, but I guess mixed with petrol, that’s a different story?
