Hiya,

With the last of the Great V8s upon us, If I were to buy a brand new car with the intention of barning it under a tarp for 20 years what steps should I take for fluids, internals, ect.

which "great" V8 do you speak of?

I think there will be heaps of them around in 20 years and nobody will want them.

i own a 1993 5.0 Mustang that i purchased in 1999.  It sits unused for 7-8 months every year.  No fluid leaks whatsoever, original rear brakes, and everything works like it should.  There was a 5 year span where it was only run 2 or 3 times each summer, absolutely ZERO issues after 30 years,    The only persistent problem i have is keeping mice out of it!  Definitely something to keep in mind, those little things can cause serious damage.

As long as its stored properly and no road salt sits on it you should be fine, however, vehicles are much different than they were years ago so who really knows how all that electronic crap will hold up?

Cars are made to be driven so not a great idea to store a car for that long. And yes V8 is going away but there are good turbocharged options coming and with time they'll get better. For example the Tundra or Sequoia they'll definitely get even better by that time.

Don’t even buy it, in the first place. Not unless you have $$$ for expensive electronic repairs due to under usage of a modern computerised vehicle.

I’m the odd one here. I say go for it, and document it. I’m curious to see how a brand new car sitting for 20 years will hold up. Maybe make a YouTube about it.

I would think to keep it in “good” condition, you would need to drive it at least once every 2 weeks for 30 minutes. And keep up with basic maintenance.

Because a car that just sits isn’t good. Gaskets dry out. Fluids evaporate or condensation will occur. Tires will get flat (unless you Jack it up).

lol. easy to say when it's not your money, eh? 😉

Yikes, diddnt expect the rage lol. Intention would be to have a Big ole v8 under a tarp with a few thousand miles years from now available to an heir, Kinda like the joy when you hear about finding a Split window stang in a barn in Backwater, Iowa. Guess I will forget about it!

It's a good point I didn't think about with the electronics though.
