Hi!
I have a 2010 Subaru Outback (manual transmission) with about 120,000 miles on it. As of late, the motor starts running incredibly rough when the gas pedal is pushed down (idles ok though). Occasionally the check engine light will come on with a P0340 code (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction). I took it to a shop and had the sensor itself replaced which didn't seem to help at all. They recommended that I take it to the dealer; they ended up replacing the spark plugs and 2 coils. Still runs about the same. Wasn't thrilled about that one.
Anyway, afterwards I bought a wiring harness and replaced the one in the car. It seemed to run ok for about 7 more miles and then started doing the same thing again.
The battery was unplugged while I was replacing the wiring harness, so wondering if the reason it ran ok briefly was related to that instead of the new harness?
Do you think there's anything obvious that I missed? I'm hoping I don't need to replace the ECU. Compression is ok.
Thanks for any input!!
You should check youtube too, there are several mechanics that are tearing these down and report that they may have OIL STARVATION, which causes other problems too.
Did you change the fuel filter? If not, change it and then pressure test the fuel pump.
@yaser
I'll give that a go; just ordered the parts. It's due for a fuel filter change anyway.
If fuel pressure checks out I would almost 100% say its air related (vacuum leaks or maf sensor).
