Hi, I’ve got a 2009 Subaru Impreza hatchback with the infamous EJ25 engine. 186xxxkm on it with the automatic transmission and AWD. Whenever I press the gas pedal while in drive at low rpms there’s a small metal rattle sound (Chainlink fence kinda sound or metal ring on a metal rod) which goes away as the car speeds up. Only happens when the gas pedal is pressed after being fully depressed. What could this be?
Could be some wear in the pedal assembly or noise from the throttle assembly moving. I can’t remember when Subaru when to throttle by wire instead of physical linkage but it was back farther than 2009 Im sure. Get someone to push the pedal while you watch the throttle body move under the hood. See if that’s your source of noise. If not check the hinge on the pedal.
The sound can be heard from the outside, so I wouldn’t think it’s the pedal. What would I be looking for in the throttle body? And the fixes to any possible issues?
Could be the actuator(motor), if anyone has cleaned it and forced it to move against the actuator the gear or linkage could be damaged. If you can hear it outside just need to put your head under the hood and find where it is coming from. I have seen clogged air filters cause noise.
