That is all personal preference. It’s your first car so something you like
Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are the usual recommendations for a first car but really it depends on what you want.
Pick whatever you feels right for you.
Go to your library and check out the Consumer's Reports car issue. It's not definitive, but in an hour or 2 you'll get a basic idea of what to buy and avoid. Be sure to get an insurance quote before you finalize the purchase - insurance companies charge new drivers a lot. Keep watching Scotty.

As a young (presumably) first time car owner, I would look at a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. If you are not fond of those, then you will have to list your constraints (below your post above) of what you are looking for.
What is your BUDGET??? Thats number 1. Then go from there!
