[Solved] Suspension squeaks over bumps and holes

Hello everyone,

Here's a bit of a dumb question. The rear suspension has been replaced on my 2010 honda civic right before I bought it, last fall. 2-3 months later, as the winter and the cold settled, the rear suspension started squeaking when going over bumps and holes. First the left rear and later on both sides.

-What could be the cause?

-Does winter/snow/cold have something to do with it?

-Will it wear out faster if it's squeaking or is it just a matter of noise?

-What should I do to make it go away? I've seen a video where Scotty uses AT-205 Reseal as preventative maintenance on rubber parts, will WD-40 do the same? Which is better in this case?

Thanks

Did they replace the rubber strut mounts along with the struts? If not, start there. But yeah, if the noise went away with the AT-205, I’d just keep spraying it every 3-4 months.

Well I haven't tried anything yet, so we'll see if it goes away. Also I have no idea if it was only the struts or the whole thing, I'd have to check the recipe if I find it.

No worries. While you’re at it, may I please have one for a tiramisu?

I just realised I wrote recipe not receipt. Here you go anyway.

Well I didn't expect you to actually do it. Did you follow the recipe I gave you?

Yes sir, although I left out the heavy cream..

Lmao that's an unexpected surprise. It looks well made too.

Items expand in heat, and contract in cold.  So the cold is causing it to squeak.  Never put wd 40 on rubber.  I  used at 205 on my bushings and they stopped squeaking.  You could also use grease or silicone spray if you wanted.

Alright, thanks! Out of curiosity, what's wrong with putting WD-40 on rubber? Doesn't it do the same job to lubricate just like grease?

Wd 40 will make the rubber fall apart.

WD-40 breaks down rubber. It's not even a lube. It's a water displacer (WD)

I have a '09 Honda fit sport I drive to work and it's suspension gets super squeaky under 40 degrees F. Above that, it's completely normal. Pretty common issue on the fit if you look through the forums. Could be a similar issue with the civic.

Well the rear is new while the front is the original and only the rear squeaks, but maybe they only change the struts, I'll see when it gets hotter.
