Hi Scotty! I recently changed my rear differential fluid for the first time on my 2012 Tacoma with 75k miles. There was about half an inch shavings on the magnet and the 3/8 diameter size drill cap on it, where did it came from? The car was made in the Mexico. The fluid was clear yellow. Planing to change the front soon. I worried about that drill cap how did it ended up there. By the way we love our 2019 Highlander and 2020 rav thanks for all the advices!!!
What, exactly is a drill cap?
It’s when you drilling the metal and the thin material stays at the end of drilling cycle that snaps off.
I'm wondering what a drill cap is too.

I can't begin to imagine where a "drill cap" came from in your rear diff. It probably would be best to pull the axles, remove the pumpkin and have it checked for broken teeth and wear. If OK it can be re-adjusted to specs and reinstalled.
