I have a couple of questions re this tool with free lifetime updates , 1st do you have to pay $49 for the bidirectional feature & what else do you have to pay $49 for, I am a little confused by the description.

To answer your question, and from me just re-reading that Amazon page, it appears if you want bi-directional capability (i.e. actuation test) you have to pay $49.95 per year for each manufacturer.  That fee also gives you ECU coding and 28 reset functions.

The other $49.95 per year subscription grants you ALL manufactures but only one reset function for each.  (Not a good value to me.)

If you are seriously interested in this tool, I would contact support at thinkcar ( http://www.mythinkcar.com) and ask them the same questions.  I would still recommend you buy from them direct on their website so you don’t get scammed.  Also, this company is fairly new and I used one of their products (Thinkcar 1S) 1-2 years ago when they launched on Kickstarter and the product was full of bugs and did not work as advertised.  To their credit, they got back to me right away whenever I emailed them, but I ended up returning the product and getting a refund.  They left a bad taste in my mouth.  I still strongly recommend Autel if you are going to be spending this kind of money for a tool that’s been around much longer and that more mechanics actually use.
