OBD II and telematics

Hey Scotty,

I believe I have viewed ALL your posts over the last several years and have never seen this addressed.  A friend claimed two different dealers diagnosed two of his cars "over the air" and did not need to access his OBD II port.  When I queried him, he said they used telematics (in his case, OnStar) to do this.

Does telematics replace OBD at the present time?  Seems fishy to me. Keep on doing what you are doing.  Enjoy it and have learned much!

Regards,

Sam

Doesn't just OBD information that's shared over the Internet with systems like OnStar and of course they're only as good as the analytical software on the other end but basically a lot of places just use it to get people in the door and then sell them a bunch of crap nothing beats a guy like me with a high level scan tool actually plugging one in and taking it for a road test and analyzing the data
