Scotty,

What kind of car scanner would you recommend for general use?  I noticed in a recent video you have a very nice, fairly expensive, Innova scanner - and was wondering what you'd recommend in the $40-60 ballpark?

Thank you sir!

The CGSULIT SC204 that @boot has fits your budget and for the money is a fine scanner for a do it yourself guy (Scotty did a video on that one).

Also within your budget is the ANCEL AD410 (Scotty did a video on that one too)

If you can go maybe $10 higher than your budget, the FOXWELL NT301 is also a good low budget scanner

the $40-60 ballpark?

This ballpark is pretty much bottom end.

What do you expect to be able to do with the tool?

I would budget for at least $100

The Innova 3100RS is normally $180, but it goes on sale intermittently at AutoZone for $100. It goes beyond the basic "code reader" and can get into ABS and the airbag system, as well as basic live data.

I would personally recommend the BlueDriver Scan Tool. I use it, and it’s a fantastic scan tool. Scotty and other YouTubers have done many reviews on it. It’s a great scan tool and give you some of the data +5000$ Scan tools give you. It also give you resolutions and top fixes for certain codes for your vehicle. Though it is ~100$ but in my opinion it is 100$ well spent and not far off from your budget.
