Hello,
Have an issue I've been struggle to diagnose. Car has 247k miles on it and has been trouble free. Lately, its developed a hum at 35 and 60mph. Sounds is from the front. Hum is worse when I swing the car left but goes away when I swing the car right. I have had power steering fail light up and shut down at power on. Restarting the car will always get power steering to work again. Hasn't happened under any other condition yet.
Diagnosis I have done so far
-No trouble codes from scan tool
- Rotated tires front to rear. Hum has stayed in the front.
- I don't have any visible tears/rips or significant leaks at any joints i can see. Power steering fluid is at max.
- If I jack up just the left front tire, its stable top and bottom, but left right allows the wheel to wobble. Looking underneath, the wobble is moving the rack and pinion link.
- If I jack up just the right front tire, it is equally wobble left to right and only visible movement is the rack and pinion link. It's about 1/4" wobble.
Given the mileage, I'm on the fence how much money I'm willing to throw at it for repair. What is the consensus here on the cause of the problem? Wondering if its multiple issue developing here, which wouldn't be a surprise given the age and mileage. Thank you in advance!

Classic symptom of a worn wheel bearing.
