Thinner Toyota Air Filters

Did anyone else notice "new and improved" air filters for 2015 Toyota Highlander?  I just bought a new air filter from a dealer and this new filter is exactly twice as thin as the older one I bought from same dealer few years ago.  Air Filter has exact same part number stamped on it and is manufactured by Denso in US.  This is what I call a "shrinkflation".  Just didn't expect it on Toyota parts.

Part number is 17801-YZZ11

Older filter media is around 2-3/8"" thick.  New filter media is 1-1/4" thick.  Go figure...

Also, how do I attached image of filters side by side?

Why are you buying filters from a dealer??

I get some nice air filters from amazon, cabin and engine, for about $8 shipped to me. I think they are epauto brand, I have been very happy with them. Afraid the price may have gone up though some, engine air filter for my GX470 is about $10 now.

Only when they offer 20% discounts on filter.  Comes out less expensive than buying online and paying for shipping.

Paid $16.95 for air filter after 20% off.  For this price not worth ordering online.

You can get them at Autozone for $15.49

As for filters and other parts for my Toyota and Honda, I prefer to buy only OEM.  I know that sometimes I overpay, but few $$$ here and there not a big deal for me.

Most of the time I do order online like from Majestic Honda and other places.  Unfortunately, I trust Amazon and eBay less and less lately. Too many knock-offs.
