Light ticking on my 2015 Subaru Legacy 3.6r. What could it be?
Can you please provide us some more information to help you out more accurately...what area is the noise coming from? When does it occur? etc.
more information
It has 92k and it only occurs when the engine is at an idle and another thing is when I press on the gas With barely any pressure it will make a little rattle sound for a split second at idle bit won’t come back in til the rpm’a come back down. It’s hard to tell where to noise is coming from. And the oil has been changed 3k miles ago.and filter.
Top contenders for a light tap or rattle would probably be hydraulic valve lifters or timing chain. You might be able to track the sound down with a mechanic's stethescope.
- make sure oil pressure is normal
- trying changing the oil+filter
if problem persists you may have worn or blocked oil pump, or advanced engine wear (you did not mention mileage)

I'm not really familiar with the Subaru flat six engines. I think it's an overhead cam design which means there's no lifters. So you could be looking at a worn valve to camshaft clearances. It could be piston slap. Normal engine wear stuff. Some engines have fuel injectors that tick normally. Hard to say. A mechanic's stethoscope might provide more clues.
Are you going to overhaul the engine yourself? If not then your only solution is to visit a mechanic. Or live with it.
