2007 Toyota Highlander V6 with the 3mz-fe engine. Buying from my in laws who have extensive repair records. Currently sitting at 106k miles. In the records I found the timing belt and water pump along with some seals were done at 45k in 2013.
With that in mind: the timing belt only has about 60k miles on it. But it's 10 years old. Is timing belt life specified by mileage alone, or by mileage and time, where you replace it either when you reach the mileage or the time interval, whichever comes first?
I know replacing the t-belt will be costly, but much cheaper than repairing bent valves.
The rubber in timing belts deteriorates with age as well as mileage. Considering the consequences if it fails I'd replace the belt if it is 10 years old or more.
