Hey Scotty,
Looking at buying 1995 BMW 540i manual with 94,700 miles from a private party. Do you think it can be a dependable daily driver (about 30 miles daily) and occasionally be used for trips from San Francisco to Los Angeles?

I would not use that vehicle for trips like that. Although it may have almost 100k miles, it's a 27 year old car and it's going to need some maintenance over time. I would look at something else.
that car is too old for being a daily driver of 30 miles per day let alone the occasional trips. If you were driving like 10 miles per day then it would be okay (and definitely you would have to baby the car) but not for more than that. My uncle does have an older Mercedes he uses for daily driver of maybe 10 miles a day, but he never speeds up with it, does a lot of preventative maintenance etc. So for your use look at something newer.
If you need a reliable daily driver, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a project car that can double as a potential daily driver, assuming you have another functioning daily driver, it could be fun. Just don’t let that be your only car.
