Tough one on tuning

Scotty, I drive a 2010 GMC Yukon XL, in Minnesota, mostly city driving, family hauler-daily driver, 180,000 miles.

Car has always had clean fluids, no rust, and we’re looking to make it drive “forever”.

The AFM has been widely reported to burn oil and/or wear out this 5.3L V8 engine early.

Although mine doesn’t seem to be burning any oil now, I was considering doing a $500 tune at a tune shop to deactivate the AFM (as opposed to the plug in deactivator which I don’t want to do).

Do you think this re-tuning is worth it to try to get more time out of this vehicle ?

This car is paid off, practical, no rust, which is unique in the north.

I think it worth it.

Is it worth it? Yes. Realize that to fully delete AFM, you'd need to replace the engine hardware related to it which is about a $3000 job.

But deleting AFM is never a bad thing.
