Hi,
I have a toyota camry 2000 with 155000miles, i recently serviced my car and approx after 2000 miles later i saw light coming on and off while driving down the road.
When i pulled the car aside and check the oil level, i have plenty of oil that should not trigger the light .. however the oil light comes on for 2 seconds
I took it to my mechanic he said, everything is normal and oil level is also normal. He said he need to pull the oil pan down and service the car for 150 bucks
I wanted to ask that whether i should do this service now or when the oil change is due 1200miles later. The oil light doesnot stick on, it just there for 5 seconds of every 60 miles.
Thanks
Monitor oil pressure. Important as you don't want to lose it even for a sec...
It doesnt answer my question,
I check the oil level regularly now, its not dropping..
My question is whether i should drop the oil pan now or later...
This problem wasnt there when i bought the car it came after 20000 miles previous owner has nothing to do with it
I can't answer the question. First we need to diagnose the problem. IF the oil pump is is starting to go bad, you shouldn't find anything in the pan until AFTER damage is done...with 150k on engine, there's gonna be some gunk in the pan. At this point doing so just doesn't do anything...imo.
A. Take pan off metal gunk everywhere. engine gone!
B. Take pan off and pretty clean. Inconclusive.
C. Take pan off and medium (150k) wear. Inconclusive.
Good luck
is right. the oil pressure in your car is low. maybe the oil pump? Maybe something else. Ask a mechanic to check it out.
I'm thinking it could just be the oil pressure sender malfunctioning . Need to check the actual pressure with a mechanical gage .
