In an ideal world, you would want to pick a camry that doesn't have any specific engine or transmission "issue" for that year, I think there is a post on this website about what years from each car model to avoid.

In the real world, the "worst" camry is probably better than the best chrysler, it is still a decent car, just be ready to deal with whatever issue it might have. If someone knows the post I'm talking about please link it.

Avoid Camry model years 2007-2009 with the 2.5L 2AZ-FE 4 cylinder engine. They are notorious for burning oil. Any Camry without this engine is a solid choice for a long term reliable car. You still want to have a mechanic inspect a car before you put any money down, regardless of what kind of car you’re looking at.

Go to the website carcomplaints.com and look for model years with the "seal of awesome". Usually if you see that seal for a certain model year and the car is in good condition when you inspect in person it will be super reliable.
