Should I buy a 2007 fj cruiser with 165k miles on it that leaks oil and power steering fluid for 6500? Also I was interested if the owner wouldn’t take cash, I own a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a newly replaced. Engine with 49000 miles on it. Would that be a good trade? Also do you think 6500 for that fj cruiser is a rip off?
Yeah, it depends a lot on exactly where the leaks are. If the engine is leaking from the rear main seal, and/or the power steering is leaking because the rack is bad, you could have to pay several thousands of dollars to get either of those problems fixed. If the leaks are from other places, it could be a lot less, but if it was a cheap and/or easy fix, the owner would do it and sell the car for a lot more. There are millions of used cars out there; don't buy a pre-owned car that's pre-broken, unless you are a skilled mechanic.
The FJ Crusier is one of those Toyotas whose value is increasing. If it was problem free or the oil leak isn't major then $6500 would be a steal. Also, that Hyundai is on its last legs. Sad but true.
