Hi Scotty my wife has a 2017 Toyota Rav4 with 43,000 Miles that she bought Pre-Owned. She has only had the vehicle for 3 months & the brakes sound like they're grinding when she stops. I want to call the Toyota Dealership where she got it from but I'm not even sure if they'll even help. What do you think? Thanks
If you bought it from a dealership, then they must help you. It is illegal for them to sell you a car that isn't safe.
If the sound goes away after a few stops, then the grinding was just normal surface rust.
Change the break pads and check the rotors. If the rotors are warped, change them too.
Take it to an honest mechanic who has good reviews from the people you trust. Ask them to check the thickness of your brake pads & rotors and replace if necessary.
Maybe they just need a good cleaning due to some debris stuck inside. If you do need new pads due to the current ones being worn down to below the limits, don’t forget to use Akebono brake pads as they are really good quality parts and Scotty fully recommends them.
Good luck!
