Toyota Tacoma Front Noise

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Sport automatic 45k miles. When I turn the wheel (left to right & right to left) right before a complete lock, there is a loud clunk noise around the front wheesl areas. It also happens when I'm start driving or in reverse. It only happens when the truck is park and my foot is on the break. The dealership replaced the rack and pinion (under warranty), I replaced upper control arms, but the noise still there. I need your expertise to diagnose the problem because the dealership gave up on me and now the warranty is expired.

Thank you.

Khoa.

could be a lot of things. Maybe you could strap a phone to the chassis and record it.

Otherwise, you'll need to take it to a trusted mechanic.

  • Check all your suspension parts (ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks).
  • scottie had videos on those but the short version is jack the car up and tug on the tire from the 3&9 position and 12&6 position. Those are the first and cheapest options.

  • It’s nice the dealership replaced the rack and pinion for free but I wouldn’t have them do work that isn’t covered. Seems like they skipped a few steps.
