Which transmission in the 2012+ Toyota camry are the ones to avoid? Was that transmission used in any other toyota cars? My friend wants to buy a newer car.

2012-2014 model year Toyota Camry’s with the U760E 6-speed automatic transmission (FWD applications only) were the most impacted.

Was the 8-speed any better? I heard some people got issues.


I am not familiar with those. I am unfortunately too familiar with the U760E.


@kesterpaul62 see below on the 8-speed. Just be sure the software update (part of TSB) was performed. That being said, jury is out on the long term reliability/durability of the 8-speed.  I would personally also change the transmission fluid every 40,000 miles on those to be safe.  I would still take the Toyota (Aisin) 8-speed over Honda’s 10-speed, some of these ZF 9-speeds, and CVTs.
