Yaris 1.3l 4 cylinder petrol, 308,000 km, 5 speed manual. 2006, Australia
Hi Scotty, ok the Yaris idles normally but once upto temperature the idle drops to 500rpm and the engine feels like it will stall but then recovers. Only happens now and again. I have attached the OBD data at idle speed and at 2500rpm. As far as I can see the data is good but unsure of the throttle position sensor at 14% at idle. Also bit juddery pulling off.
Jobs already done include, Exhaust manifold gasket, Inlet manifold gasket, fuel injector clean (removed and re-installed), Exhaust donut gaskets, oil, filter, gear oil, spark plugs, tested spark coils. MAF sensor clean and vacuum hoses checked. Coolant flush, throttle body cleaned, air intake manifold removed and fully cleaned and re-installed.
Only thing left is the catalytic converter or if you could shed your wisdom please. Had a great time so far doing the work following all your vids, just this last hurdle. drives great once up to speed. Amazingly the aircon is ice cold 😆
Thanks for your help
Well if you're not getting any codes at all and it stalls out often it's a fuel pump starting to go out as the computer has no idea what your fuel pressure is if you can't find anything wrong with all the work you did I would change the fuel pump and the fuel filter and pray it wasn't some type of computer circuit failure because realize that Yaris is not actually a Toyota that's a Mazda and their computers are not as well made as the Toyota computers are
Wow, cheers Scotty. It got me thinking about fuel pressure. Realised it maybe the fuel cap as I know you mentioned it heaps of times. The cap doesn't click but I super tightened it up and couldn't believe the difference. Car runs normal again.
Please keep doing what you're doing..... I'm learning so much even as a 50yo signals electrician 🙂 🙂
