trans hot idle engine error

I have a 2004 Cadillac SRX. After I drive it about an hour, it says trans hot idle engine. It runs perfect and does make any noise and transmission shifts as it should. I took it to a mechanic and they said that the catalytic converters are stopped up causing the error. So do you think that if I replace them will the error go away? The mechanic was no help. They wanted to replace the whole car. Is it hard to replace the converters? I don't really don't want to get rid of the car. It doesn't have any other issues. It has low miles on it.

Maybe a converter heat shield that protects the transmission rusted and fell off? If you had clogged converters it would impact engine operation. The cats can be tested for excessive back pressure.

that's an unusual one. But hypothetically if the cats are clogged the exhaust system could get really hot. If the exhaust pipes run close enough to the transmission, it could be overheating. You could easily verify this diagnosis yourself by pointing one of those inexpensive infrared thermometer guns at your exhaust and transmission pan. If that were the case, then yes replacing the cats could resolve the issue.

you cut out the old ones and weld in new ones. They will probably have to deal with some seized rusty old bolts. It's a couple of hours of labour at least. But catalytic converters are expensive parts because they contain precious metals.
