Greetings, I have a 1994 Chrysler LH, 107k miles, 3.5L. I was driving to work (highway) going around 60mph changed lanes and tried to speed up some but I couldn't. Vehicle just revved up and my speed went down. I pulled over to the side of the road and started to slow down. I hit about 35 / 40 and I felt the transmission hard shift down. I tried getting back onto the highway but when I got to about 50 it only revved and didn't shift. I deduced that my car wont shift out of 2nd gear but i cant read / find out if i have any codes. The connector in my car is a male connector and I can't find an adapter/obd1/odb2 that can plug into it. Can someone help with either the issue or guide me in a direction to find a female plug/scan tool I can use to read my computers? Thank you
After nearly 3 decades the transmission is probably shot. (Is there enough fluid? When is the last time it was serviced?) A 1994 model obviously lacks OBD2 diagnostics and likely doesn't provide much in the way of transmission data. You'd need manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools. Best to take it to a transmission specialist for diagnosis.
Thank you. Yes, the fluid is good, right color and all. I haven't got a servicing on it. I've only had it a little more than a year myself. Understood on the specialist. Ugh. Thank you again
If you're lucky maybe a hinky shift solenoid or wiring issue, but unless someone else here more familiar with that trans has some ideas it's going to take a pro to figure it out.
