Why does my Solara accelerate poorly

2004 toyota solara v6

4-speed automatic

145k miles

Hi please, is it the transmission or the engine that's responsible for the speed and acceleration on a car. My friend has a car with a 4 speed transmission and he claims it's the reason his car is slow, given his solara has a v6 under the hood.

Thank you in advance for the replies 🙂

Not enough information.

Was it not "slow" before?

Since he bought it used, it's always ran that way, especially from when it comes to to complete stop at a red light, everyone else seems to disappear before we catch up😅😅

It could be either. Are there any other symptoms? Vibration? Sounds? Warning lights on instrument panel? Have you checked fluids?

Nope no warning lights, I believe it was serviced shortly before he bought it
