Hi Scotty,
Thank you so much for helping me navigate purchasing a new car. My last car was 22 years old so I was lost in a sea of cars that I don't understand any more because of all the electronics (I used to work on my 4 cylinder Chevy Prizm with a Toyota engine).
Becasue of you I had a posting for notifications on 5 National used car websites looking for:
- Toyota Corolla MADE IN JAPAN
- 2000-2024
- Less than 75k miles (yes, I was looking for gold!)
- No more than $20k (looking for diamonds!)
- STICK SHIFT!!
It took 6 months and then wha la! A notice came in from Scottdale, AZ from a sports car dealership. They had taken a trade-in for one of their cars that fit my parameters:
- Toyoata Corolla Hatchback made in Japan (YEAH!)
- 29k miles (WOW!)
- $19,999 (they sold it for the original sticker price - I have the sticker!)
- STICK SHIFT!!!! (I'm in heaven!)
- And it's RED!!! (what I prayed for!)
I hopped on a plane the next day and drove it back to Petaluma, CA.
So, now my question - the transmission has the "iM" tech. I've never "turned it on" since I've owned the car (I have 44k now). Should I use it to extend the life of the transmission? I'm confused on how it works.
Thank you! You are my Car Super Man!
Peace, Lorien Fenton
Short answer, it rev-matches on downshifts. Long answer here:
