Is it worth doing a transmission rebuild or should you junk the car when the tranny is done?
Which car? Which transmission? How much on the odometer? Is it under warranty? It depends on the situation, but usually no.
Usually, some cars that have a history of transmission issues like Hondas, Acuras, some Fords, and some European cars.
again , it depends on many things. Are you going to bother taking the tranny out of a 1997 Ford Taurus with 300k? Of course not.
All depends on what vehicle. A rebuild is almost always cheaper than a reman unit. If you find someone who rebuilds the tranny correctly it could be just as good as a reman.
Depends, if your car is worth something then as Scotty says try your luck with a remanufactured transmission or junkyard transmission.
If the car in question is basically worthless then of course not. It depends on the transmission itself as well. Would you rebuild a 15 year old CVT? Not unless you like burning your wallet. What about a 5 year old Subaru that is worth 10 15 grand? Of course you would get a 'new' transmission, what are you crazy to junk a car that is worth that much?
I think its a case by case basis situation.
Also depends if you had the car since new and really took decent care of it. But again, mileage, age and present value all need to be considered.
