Morning , I have 1989 Ford Crown Vic LTD , 144k, Auto.
I have found a trustworthy transmission shop. I need my transmission rebuilt or replaced. Reverse works in Drive position, park works in park pos. , and neutral works in drive position (can’t get transmission in Drive)

what are some of the question I should ask when I speak to technician ?
do I want a rebuilt or replacement (if one is available) ?

can they give me a quote on estimated cost , if they don’t drop the trans pan and physically look at transmission ? Any other key questions I should ask before giving them the green light to fix . Estimated cost 1400-1800 per technician I spoke to.

Are you sure it's not just the linkage worn or out of adjustment?

No I’m not sure , I’m pretty handy with older cars but transmission are a different bread to myself . Thank you for your info!

I clicked link but I believe something is wrong with link

What I would do is have the car checked out by a trustworthy independent mechanic. Have it towed if necessary. An honest shop will let you know if it is just the control linkage. Do not go to chain shops such as AAMCO, Pep Boys, Mida, etc., or a dealer.

Will do thank you

If the trans is shot, I would get an upgraded rebuilt unit from Monster Trans or TCI and have your guy install it.
