2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 with an automatic transmission. 170,000 miles on the engine/transmission. I’ve never changed the fluid. I never knew that I was supposed to. It’s recently started slipping on me.. how should I approach this Situation given that I have never changed the transmission fluid. Thank you {black}:scared:

responding to this so that future readers have an idea of what to expect. So i Did check my transmission fluid level and it was low. i added the entire bottle of Lucas Transmission fix to the system. I started with a quarter bottle then i continued to add a quarter after running it about 20 miles between each. it stopped getting stuck in 1 gear and the car ran relatively clean for a week or so. ive ran it another 5k miles so far its definitely not as smooth as when i first put it in but it is still running. it does shake when you go over about 55 like youre riding a pony bareback. Might go ahead and add some more. will update at 10k.

If it's slipping because the level is just low , then top it up with ATF. Why Lucas?
Anyway, sounds like the transmission's days are numbered. Get your plan B ready.

Adding Lucas to a cvt will lead to its final demise if I’m not to late

It could be as simple as low fluid level.  It is an 11ish year old car and aging seals could be leaking. Newer transmissions don't have a dipstick so you can do a web search on how to check the level or ask a reputable Nissan mechanic, not necessarily at a dealer, to check it for you and top it off if it's low.  At that time, you can ask him about changing the transmission fluid.
