On my 2010 Honda Civic (105,000km) with manual transmission driving back home, I went to shift into 1st gear from Netural and it didn't go in. I didn't notice until I lifted my foot off the clutch. I tried 3 times to gently put it into 1st which didn't work until I slammed in forcefully. Is this a problem with the linkage or synchros? I can feel that the gear lever is not in the right position and is slightly offset to the middle (almost bordering 3rd gear) instead of it going all the way left and up.

Well you want to pray it's the linkage. Because if not, it would be inside the transmission. Check the linkage in the bushings on that first
